Operation Honey Bee

A project focused on creating a multi-pack packaging concept for a non-profit.

WHO ARE WE?

Operation Honey Bee is a conscious movement created by John Baxter that serves in protecting honey bees and other pollinators. They promote and advocate sustainable agricultural practices that protect and bolster overall pollinator health.

OUR MISSION:

Operation Honey Bee’s mission is to connect communities of the world, to spread awareness, educate, and lead the sustainable movement that will preserve bees and other pollinators for future generations.

PROCESS

Operation Honey Bee already has a store in place that sells a variety of items; all purchases go to their cause. Different possibilities and combinations were experimented with to see what fit best. A simple, environmentally friendly, corrugated box seemed the best fit for the intended mission.

COLOR PALETTE:

The inspiration behind the color palette are bee apiaries. The use of red and black bring forth a sense of urgency to the message behind the product.

TYPEFACES:

The typeface Calistoga was used for its legible, vintage, and traditional-like style; a slight nod to a rustic farm-like image. Contrasting greatly with the overall typeface, Black Ops One was used to create the “Operation Honey Bee” stamp on the outside to bring a sense of urgency with a playful twist to the word “operation” in the company name.

OUTER PACKAGING

The Sampler box emphasizes the importance of natural beekeeping, flaunting its organic, pesticide-free, and non-GMO traits. With quotes such as “bee the change” and “If the bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years left to live,” the packaging calls its audience to its cause. To make the packaging more personal, a message from the founder and their signature is included as a thank-you message. Another side includes a QR code linking directly to the donation page.

The packaging is an auto-lock box, so there is no gluing necessary, even for shipping.

THE HONEY LABELS:

The Operation Honey Bee shop has multiple flavors of raw, unfiltered honey. With 7 different flavors choose, multiple types of honey should be instantly recognizable and differentiated, thus multiple color palettes were used.

LABEL TYPEFACES:

Although the honey is part of this package, they are also sold by itself. To make them stand out by themselves, I gave them their own look of their own, utilizing the typefaces Knewave and Embrima.
